Shaun Martin's Profile

Shaun Martin is Managing Director of Conservation Leadership and Capacity Building at World Wildlife Fund. He oversees the management of programs that help develop and recognize leadership and build capacity for conservation, including the Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program (EFN), the Kathryn S. Fuller Science for Nature Fund, and the Getty Award for Conservation Leadership. Shaun also sits on WWF’s climate change adaptation team designs and implements adaptation training for WWF staff and partners. Shaun has more than 20 years experience working with capacity building, leadership development, and international fellowship programs and has developed an expertise in the recruitment and selection of grantees in multinational programs, development of internet-based program management capabilities, and institutional capacity building of grassroots nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining WWF in 2001, Shaun served as a senior program officer at the Institute of International Education (IIE) in New York. During his eight years at IIE, he designed and implemented more than a dozen scholarship and training programs that collectively trained thousands of individuals in a wide range of academic and professional fields. Shaun lived in Tokyo for four years where he taught English and American history, and translated chemical and medical research. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in international development from the University of Pittsburgh. He sits on boards and advisory groups for several conservation leadership programs, including the Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders program and TogetherGreen.
