Antonio Oviedo

Antonio has a PhD in Sustainable Development from the University of Brasilia and a Master´s degree in Geography from the University of São Paulo. He graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the University of Taubaté, 1988. He studied Crop-Weather Modeling from the World Meteorological Organization in Tel-Aviv. Antonio has 22 years of experience in agriculture and sustainable development, developing technical consultancy, scientific research and project management in LBA-NASA, University of São Paulo, University of Taubaté, and WWF-Brazil. He has worked for WWF-Brazil since 2001 as Program Officer for the Amazon River and Floodplain Ecoregion and was deeply involved in the development of a biodiversity vision for the Amazon floodplains, including methods for conservation planning and co-management of floodplain resources. Antonio also coordinated other projects in the Amazon, such as the Varzea Project and the adaptive management in the Upper Purus river basin. Before working for WWF-Brazil, Antonio worked as researcher and professor for the University of Taubaté, coordinating projects of crop-weather modeling and for the University of São Paulo, working with the effect of logging on carbon balance in the Amazon basin. He was the coordinator of several projects focused on environmental management, including the recovery of degraded lands and geotechnical mapping in Jacareí city for the Environmental Secretary Town Hall – São Paulo. Antonio has published many scientific papers and communication materials.
